Writing a Resume For an Internship
Writing a Resume For an InternshipMany students apply for an internship thinking that writing a resume for an internship will be easy. The reality is that no matter how much you study for it, you are still going to have to write it yourself. It's like walking into a room full of complete strangers and asking them for help with a job application. No matter how long you've studied your college courses or how good you think you are at putting together a resume, there is no way you are going to be able to write a resume that will impress someone who has never seen one before. People are used to hiring people who have been working in the same field as them for a while and have been doing it for a while before, so if you had ever been hired by any company in the past, they would know that you don't do well in interviews. So you want to make sure that you are writing a quality resume for an internship that will get you that first interview. There are several things that you can do to make it look professional, but you are going to have to write it yourself. So do it right the first time.Start off with what the company wants to see when they are interviewing you. First and foremost, it needs to show that you have the skill set that they are looking for. Don't tell them you did some research on a topic that didn't show up on the first page of Google. Be specific. Make sure that the information on your resume is more specific than what they already know about you.Always make sure that they understand the situation when you ask them to write your resume for you. Don't just state something like this: 'My internship was a great experience and I learned a lot. I would be happy to provide a copy of my work.' The job description will probably change a little bit from company to company, but there are few things that should remain consistent.Give your biggest accomplishments in the field, but also give the details. Whether it was solving a difficult problem or presenting your ide as to a team of people, make sure you include them. If you got good grades, get some examples of the good grades.Write down all of the skills that you have that could relate to the position you are applying for. Those might include the ability to solve problems, the ability to collaborate well, the ability to handle a crisis, and others. However, you want to make sure that they are on your resume for every position that you fill. Otherwise, it will just look unprofessional.Keep these tips in mind when you are writing your resume for an internship. You will be glad that you did.
